Capricorn Clusterf#*k: Battle of the Saturn Signs

Buckle in buddy, Saturn’s not done with us yet!

Though Aquarius’ tempo and forward-thinking mindset is running the show this week, Capricorn’s energy is staying strong and steady in the cosmos. This week the Sea-Goat is taking charge of Mercury and Mars. Mars moves into Capricorn on January 24th and Mercury retrogrades to Capricorn on January 25th.

For six weeks, the planet of anger, action, energy and sex drive will forge through the sign of Capricorn.

Mars is how set off to achieve our goals, our resourcefulness, fight and courage. It shows how we work to survive through our instincts as well as where we look to compete with others. Mars is exalted in Capricorn, meaning it functions optimally under this influence. Capricorn has the endurance and determination to put their head down and get the work done. This sign’s influence on Mars may push us to act in a disciplined and methodical way. It is a time when we can take agency over our bodies and responsibility over ourselves with ease. It is a positive time to start a new fitness routine or pursue a fitness goal.

Mars’ association with war combined with Capricorn’s systematic approach makes now a prime time to work on a master plan. This Mars transit taking place alongside two planetary retrogrades doesn’t set us up currently to make big moves. However, this is an optimal time to work on a strategy to build an idea you have had into something long-lasting and sustainable.

The hardest part is showing up to start and carving out the time to be consistent.

On January 25th, we have Mercury sliding back in Capricorn where it very quickly makes a conjunction to Pluto on January 28th exact. Energy builds and dissipates so this influence will be felt pretty immediately.

Where we find Pluto we find intensity and when it meets with Mercury there can be some intense conversations or realizations ahead.

This transit occurred once already on December 29th, 2021. It will also occur one more time on February 11th once Mercury stations direct. The themes that manifest during each of these conjunctions will likely manifest again each time Mercury and Pluto tango.

When Pluto in Capricorn is involved it is likely to experience breakdowns or implosions to simply get out old stuck and stagnant feelings. This is a transit that will help us remove dead weight. This is a positive time to rid yourself of excess. Addictions and self-sabotaging habits may also find themselves under the spotlight as we are encouraged to remove whatever isn’t truly serving at this time. Be aware of holding onto anything too stubbornly.

Mercury in Capricorn is a stark tonal change as Aquarius’ open-minded nature is quite contrary to the restriction imposed with Capricorn. In this sign, Mercury is concerned with practicality and pragmatism.

Under the influence of this retrograde transit, we are presented with an opportunity to reorganize, re-do, revise, review, reassess, redirect or repair mercurial areas of our lives through the lens of stoic Capricorn.

As Venus’ retrograde comes to a close, this is a pivotal moment to finalize the lessons her retrograde is trying to impart to us. Where Venus retrograde in Capricorn asked us “is this worth putting my energy into” and to review the ways we prioritize different areas of life, Mercury retrograde is asking us “is this the best way to get this done” and review the different ways we prioritize our time.

With all this Capricorn energy collecting, time is certainly a central theme during this next week. Saturn is the keeper of time and Capricorn demands the very best of us, even if that means investing a great deal of time and effort. Because Mercury, Venus and Mars govern over so much of our mundane experience it is important to be aware of pushing yourself too hard.

Capricorn’s ambitious nature strives to achieve results but it is important to know your own limitations and create boundaries from a toxic “grind” mentality.

Lately I personally I have been reminding myself “time spent resting is not wasted time” or "I have more than enough time to get x, y or z done". This mantra is something I repeat to myself whenever I find weight in stillness. American culture does very little to respect the value of resting. Under capitalism’s heavy burden work is prioritized first, your value is dictated by the way you contribute. Under Pluto in Capricorn, we’ve seen the collective breaking down of this mentality.

This week we can expect that same feeling to manifest on a smaller scale. With Mercury, Venus and Mars in Capricorn, we can clearly acknowledge what it is that we deserve. We can no longer accept feeling unfulfilled in our day-to-day experience. We are inspired to go back to basics and rework the plan to attune higher to our needs. It is a time to rest, reflect and rework. It is a time to put yourself first by being disciplined enough to create structure around your goals. Be sure to honor your body by prioritizing rest. Unsustainable behavior, such as poor sleeping or eating habits, will not get you far now.

Under this influence, it is important to take smaller steps moving from a place of harmony rather than big strides with an exhausted mind, body and spirit.

With Saturn’s omnipresence through the current astrology, it can feel like the pressure is on now. On Saturn, it rains diamonds, so if you do find yourself overwhelmed by this energy bear in mind this is the pressure that will transform you into a diamond.
