The Sun is sliding through Mercury-ruled Gemini from May 20th through June 21st. When the Sun is in Gemini we are between spring and summer. Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) are the signs that change the seasons. Under Gemini’s influence, we are ready to move full speed ahead to the excitement summer promises. This is the time of year when we are filling out our social calendars and are eager to experience life.
Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac, taking place after Taurus’ beautification of the environment. If Aries is the seed breaking through the soil, and Taurus is the seedling taking root to open up and bloom, Gemini is the wind whisking away the petals to explore the furthest corners of the world.
The twins are known for their polarity. Mutable energy has the ability to traverse nature’s many dualities with ease, sitting comfortably on both sides. Gemini has a side to them that is extroverted, curious, thrill-seeking, fun-loving, adventurous, and spontaneous as well as a side that is highly logical, rational, reasonable, intuitive, inventive, and introverted.
Gemini energy adapts to its environment and never likes to stay in the same place for too long. They are a butterfly floating through the garden of life, resting on whatever flower catches their eye before fluttering away to the next.
Ruled by Mercury, Gemini has profound mental acuity. They are driven by a deep curiosity to understand and connect with the world around them. They prefer to keep things light, laugh, gossip, and even at times play pranks (Mercury is the trickster god after all). They may be coy or evasive at times and will avoid situations that “rain on their parade”. They are witty, charming, and vivacious and where ever you find them, fun is to be had!
This Gemini season begins with Mercury in their domicile. Mercury has been speeding through Gemini since April 29th. In Gemini, Mercury is dignified but because this planetary transition of power fell under the pre-retrograde shadow period we may not have felt the typical excitement of the messenger planet roaming around their home turf.
Mercury in Gemini colors the lens through which we see the world with enthusiasm, excitement, and curiosity.
Gemini’s main function is centered around socialization and connection as an air sign. Typically Mercury here would indicate ease in the meeting of the minds. We are open to learning and seek out adventure that broadens our horizons. We may desire to move full speed ahead but find ourselves feeling quite stagnant due to Mercury’s retrograde position.
Mercury is the messenger planet, it rules over the thinking mind, communication, connection, commerce, contracts, technology, transit, travel, ideas, news, and media. It’s extremely close to Earth so when it experiences a retrograde transit, it is acutely felt by all.
Under this Mercury Retrograde transit, we may notice breakdowns in plans, relationships, or communication in general. There may be issues related to postage, not seeing both sides of an argument, gossiping, or feeling overwhelmed. We may seek stimulation only to find ourselves overstimulated and require a decent amount of alone time later on. It is important to balance time with others with equal parts time for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde is all about slowing down, something Mercury nor Gemini are quite fond of but recognize as a necessary part of the process. This Mercury Retrograde transit began in Gemini at 4º on May 10th and wrap up in Taurus at 26º on June 3rd.
As soon as the Sun enters Gemini, Mercury finds itself under the Sun’s beams otherwise known as Mercury cazimi, exact on May 21st. This is a conjoining of Mercury to the Sun. This transit bestows Mercury with all the power of the Sun. Mercury in Gemini likes to move full speed ahead, making decisions on whimsy based on their everchanging instinctual desires. This is a good day for making important connections or coming to sudden clarity around an issue. When Mercury retrogrades back to Taurus on May 22nd, it may feel like hitting a hard stop on the breaks.
This is going from the heightened energy of Hare to the deliberate pace of the tortoise.
Mercury in Taurus reminds us that there is value in creating slow-moving progress by perfecting every detail. We should use this time to revisit, review and re-do. We are being asked to slow down in order to rework our plans in order to make them more sustainable and of higher quality.
Shortly behind Mercury’s return to Taurus, Mars who has been swimming in the emotional waters of Pisces will be bursting through to Aries, the sign of its domicile on May 24th. Mars is home in Aries and ready to ignite a fire under us to get shit done!
This transit will inspire rapid momentum! Dignified Mars turns the heat up and gets us moving. We may feel more courageous, straightforward, and spontaneous. We’re ready to take action and go after what we want and unafraid to be ourselves. Tempers may fly under this transit, but not for long. Aries energy burns out bright and fast. Mars will transit Aries through July 5th.
Venus is returning to her domicile of Taurus as well on May 28th! Here Venus is able to take a deep breath and relax. She is here is help put out some of the fires that may have started during her time in Aries. Venus will transit through Taurus until June 22nd.
Venus in Taurus values being in the present moment and filling it with the most exquisite, delectable, sensual experiences. We desire to indulge in a way that stimulates all of our senses. This transit asks us to nurture ourselves and foster relationships that bring us stability and security.
Additionally, we are being asked to remain realistic about our expectations within our relationships. Venus in Taurus can be a bit possessive at times and needs to be reminded that objects of our affection are people- not simply objects.
We may notice some of our relationships to be transactional under this transit and ditch them in favor of our self-worth. This is an excellent transit to grow your personal self-love practice and learn more about what your needs are in relation to that.
The New Moon in Gemini will take place during the early hours of May 30th.
This is the first new moon in Gemini that has not been an eclipse for about 2 and a half years. This is an excellent opportunity to socialize with friends, neighbors, siblings, or acquaintances, find new ways to speak our truth, express ourselves, improve communication, or awaken our curiosity. It is a good time to open our minds and evaluate the ways in which we take in information or make connections.
Shortly after this beautiful new beginning, Mercury returns to direct motion on June 3rd. Unfortunately, we do have Saturn stationing retrograde right behind in the sign of Aquarius on June 4th.
Saturn rules over discipline, responsibility, karmic lessons, and restriction. When this planet stations retrograde it can manifest as a harsh reality check if you haven’t been doing the necessary work. If you have, this can be a fortuitous moment to reap the fruits of your labor. Either way, this transit acts as a rebalancing of karma.
Mercury returns to Gemini on June 13th! Finally moving beyond the degrees they retrograded over in Taurus. From this point on we have three personal planets in the sign of their essential dignity for the remainder of Gemini season. This is a powerful moment in time to make great strides towards our goals! We may still experience some of the retrograde weirdness under the post-retrograde shadow period up until June 18th.
On June 14th, we have a full moon in Sagittarius. Again, this is the first Sagittarius full moon that hasn’t been an eclipse since 2019!
Full Moons are ending to clear our space for the next cycle. We may have some beliefs indoctrinated into us we need to tackle and release here. This can also be a time to reassess your own big picture and see what small steps you can take to build that out into reality.
With the Sagittarius full moon illuminating the sky, there may be some good news being delivered to us during this time! The influence of this full moon is inviting in an opportunity to express gratitude, remain positive, look ahead optimistically, and imagine our biggest dreams manifesting in reality. We see limitless potential in ourselves and can build upon our ambitions with our beliefs.
Gemini season this year, much like Geminis themselves, is highly unique and multifaceted. We have high highs and low lows but we always keep it pushing. We may stand to have a lot to learn but we are wide-eyed and eager to take on the task. Now that we’ve made it to the other side of eclipse season we may notice reality has reconfigured and we are left with a new landscape to explore. With the Gemini Sun driving our curiosity we are surely set to discover exactly what makes us feel light and free.
