There is a distinct change of pace beginning July 5th when Mars ingresses to Taurus followed shortly behind by Mercury moving to Cancer. Here, they will immediately form a sweet sextile that invokes harmony between our minds and actions.
Mercury is the lens through which we see the world, Mars is how we get things done. In Cancer and Taurus respectively, they work well together- weaving our intuitive emotional mind through our careful and concise action.
Taurus’ takeover of Mars is a slow, sweet ride on cruise control compared to Aries’ full throttle. We may not have as much energy (especially under the conservative Cancer Sun) but our output will be more intentional and of higher quality.
Mars in Aries was ambitious, unbridled energetic expression. Aries energy is fast-paced, moving towards their conquests headfirst. Taurus energy is much more calculated and needs a firm plan in place before moving at a methodical pace. Under transits of Aries, we can easily take first steps to get things off the ground. Mars under fire energy ignites our passions, our courage, and our fighting spirit.
Taurus transits are for finding our footing, securing our resources, grounding, and ensuring that what we are creating is sustainable in the long run. Taurus invites us to tend to the gardens of our inner being by practicing mindfulness within our every action.
This transit of Mars drives us to fulfill our desires materially and sensually. We are steady, decisive, and apply a “common sense” approach to our objectives. This transit of Mars has a slow-burn effect that curbs aggression, preferring to resolve problems with practicality or a level head. We are less inclined to deal with issues head-on and in the moment. Mars in Taurus prefers to only take calculated risks.
Taurus does have their limits though, they may not be quick to anger but they are stubborn, strong, and unyielding. Taurus prefers to not expend energy if it isn’t “worth their time” as time is a precious resource. They do not get angry often for this reason but when they do they are relentless until they get their way.
Mercury’s ingress into Cancer continues to add to the cosmic slowing of the pace.
Mercury colors our perspective as it rules over the mind. With Cancer taking reign, we can expect our emotions and intuition to take the lead in our responses to outside stimuli. Water energy in Mercury enmeshes our emotional experience to our way of communicating, thinking, learning, and connecting.
Under this transit, it is extremely important to communicate how you feel! The crab moves from side-to-side, meandering and not approaching conflict directly as a way to “protect” themselves or protect others from themselves. In truth, we cannot forge a true connection without allowing space for vulnerability and speaking from the heart.
Cancer has a habit of assuming everyone knows how they feel as they are deeply psychic and know how you feel. This is not always the case and unless you explicitly have a conversation about what your needs are, you shouldn’t assume others are blatantly ignoring them in an attempt to hurt you.
We can’t expect others to read our minds. Luckily, this is the perfect astrology for a heart-to-heart!
Coming off of last week’s new moon in Cancer on June 28th, we may feel emotionally raw and exposed. This transit of Mercury invites us to continue to plunge into the depths of our shadow and acknowledge how the past has shaped us in the present moment. Cancer is an extremely nostalgic sign and Mercury here indicates a strong memory. We may be looking back right now and while it can be tempting to romanticize the past...
It's better to use this as a moment to recognize how much you’ve grown and see how far you’ve come.
Under Cancer transits, we are hyper-sensitive- particularly when it comes to opposing viewpoints. It is easy to become defensive here and stand up for what we believe to be true. We are more prone to subjectivity and may need to work harder to make sure everyone feels heard and understood.
Emotions under a Cancer transit are akin to that of a giant wave heading toward the shore. You may feel so small compared to the wave from where you stand as it barrels forward but by the time it reaches you, it's as manageable as moving with the flow of the current.
Water energy is deeply creative and imaginative with a strong connection to our subconscious minds. We may receive answers in the form of intuitive downloads or repeated imagery in our dreams. There’s a unique opportunity to make connections intuitively and to link subconscious symbolism to our mundane experiences.
Mercury in Cancer and Mars in Taurus work extremely well together in their shared goal of achieving comfort, security, and safety. Water energy nourishes the soil of the Earth, allowing for new life to grow. After the whirlwind combination of their predecessors Gemini and Aries, these transits ask us to pause and nurture ourselves fully and completely before taking action.
Here we can foster healthier, more sustainable patterns in communicating our emotions and work from a place of integrity.
In moments of quiet reflection, we can come to a deeper understanding. It all starts with keeping an open heart and mind, trusting in the bigger picture, and allowing your instincts to guide you as you continue on. Cancer Season directly confronts our conditioning in relation to our present circumstances. We are being offered a chance to address and heal our deepest wounds. If we can overcome what hinders us from inside of ourselves, we stand to gain a new clearer-cut way to joy and inner peace.
