Mercury in Taurus: here to help us build our foundation

Writer's picture: the ethereal piscesthe ethereal pisces

After squaring off with Pluto, Mercury makes a mad dash to Taurus. This planetary change of the guard might be extremely jarring, much like coming into peace after the peak of a tense situation.

We may have to take a few days to recalibrate to the slow and steady tempo Mercury in Taurus likes to operate under. By comparison, Mercury's stride through Aries was a max dash to victory.

Aries' energy is assertive, forward, and exciting. This is nature’s rebirth after winter. We are excited to step outside and be in the world. If we think of Aries as where the seed is planted and breaks through the soil, Taurus is where the seedling takes root so it can begin to bloom- a delicate process that cannot be rushed.

From April 10th until April 29th, Mercury will make its way through the sign of the Bull.

Taurus is a fixed Earth sign ruled by Venus. This transit adds some much-needed practicality and sensuality back into the cosmos. Earth energy is grounded and under its influence, we are encouraged to remain planted and firm in ourselves.

This is a time to be realistic in our communication and within our connections. Mercury colors the lens through which we see the world. In Taurus, we will have a “common-sense” approach to matters and remain rather “bull-headed” with opposition to our views.

This is an excellent time to check in with our bodies and be present with ourselves or begin a wellness routine rooted in simplicity. There is a grounding energy available to us now if we are willing to sit and be honest about how we feel.

Taurus is ruled by Venus and has a distinct taste for sensuality and luxury. They like to savor things and seek top quality in everything. This transit is an ideal time to begin a new skincare routine, spend some time at a spa, or get a deep tissue massage.

On April 17th, Mercury forms a harmonious sextile to Venus who has just moved to Pisces on. This transit is romance at its finest. The dreamy quality of Venus in Pisces appeals to Mercury in Taurus’ more basal instincts. We are easily enticed or enticing! It is a positive time to channel your vision through any creative outlet or bake an indulgence delicacy. We are supported in communicating our desires and can easier mediate through disagreements.

This is an extremely positive aspect for networking and socializing or drawing on our resources within our immediate environment.

Routine is extremely important to Taurus, they like predictability and knowing exactly how everything is going to work out. Unfortunately, two of the most chaotic players on the cosmic board right now are sitting in Taurus for long spans of time. The North Node of destiny will be in Taurus between January 2022-July 2023 and Uranus has been in Taurus since 2018 and will end its transit in 2026.

Uranus, planet of disruption works in fundamental opposition to Taurus’ preferred mode of being. This planet’s nature is unpredictable and destabilizing to the structure Taurus desperately desires.

On April 18th when these two meet up it is an opportunity to transcend and think “out of the box”. This transit can indicate sudden clarity being offered to us that might be unsettling to digest. This can be an extremely cathartic moment if we ease up on control.

The North Node meets with Mercury via conjunction (as well as the South Node via opposition) on April 23rd. On this same day, Mercury forms an aspect of tension known as a square to Saturn.

The Nodes point out where the next set of eclipses will take place. Eclipses represent unexpected changes that manifest in unexpected ways. Mercury meeting with the Nodes this week can act as a precursor to the pending solar eclipse on April 30th. The North Nodes' function is to expand whatever it touches, there is an emphasis on the conversations and connections we make at this time.

The North and South Nodes are points of karma that weave unconscious ties from the future and past into the present.

This is a good day to invest in or make plans for your future, especially with Saturn’s involvement here. We may find challenges or obstacles in our way but we can persevere if we adapt to Taurus’ slow and steady approach, mastering one step at a time.

Mercury forms another sextile to Neptune in Pisces on April 25th. This connection inspires us to marry our ideals to our mundane experiences. If there is some way in which you envision yourself being, this is the perfect transit to embody that more fully by reworking your daily routine.

This same day marks the beginning shadow period for the upcoming Mercury retrograde cycle beginning on May 10th. During the shadow period, we may begin to notice breakdowns in communication, technology, or transit. This time primarily acts as a preview of what Mercury retrograde is here to impart to you. In my personal experience, if you utilize this time wisely Mercury retrograde itself isn’t so bad beyond the technical inconveniences.

Jupiter connects with Mercury on April 27th, lending some optimism, opportunity, and luck through our connections. This is an extremely positive day for negotiating business deals so long as we read the fine print. We are treading very close to the coming eclipse which can feel energetically heavy. There is a high probability of happenstances of fate to occur, pay attention to the people or situations you encounter at this time.

As to be expected, Pluto gets the last word again as the planet of death, destruction, and rebirth forms a harmonious trine aspect to Mercury right before it makes its exit from Taurus.

Where we find Pluto we find upheaval, this planet's function is to uproot anything that doesn’t fit in the bigger picture. This is a time where we are supported in relinquishing outdated beliefs even if they are considered to be foundational to us. This transit will occur two more times due to Mercury’s upcoming retrograde. If we do not address this the first time around, two more opportunities are on their way to us to drill the lesson in on May 25th and June 10th.

Pluto speaks about power dynamics and control. In supporting Mercury, Pluto asks of us in what ways do we maintain our individual power within our environment, and are there ways in which we seek to control that actually exist as a limitation to our growth?

We may be required to rebuild the structures of power within our life or re-work our relationship with control through this transit. This can start as a simple disruption that shakes up our routine that inspires us to be proactive instead of reactive. This is another transit that indicates “fated connections” in the realm of career or day-to-day routine.

And finally, Mercury moves to the sign of its domicile, Gemini on April 29th! With Mercury here, we are ready to explore the world and share our ideas with one another. We desire intellectual stimulation and to expand our viewpoint through new experiences.
