I haven’t really written any horoscopes lately, the more mundane parts of life have been taking precedence over astrologizing current energies. I’ve been practicing being more present in my body, so I’ve taken a step back from observing transits as profoundly. Since the top of 2023, my primary mission has been reaching equilibrium within my spiritual practice and in my physical body. The prior year had taken a lot out of me, I’ve felt pushed to extreme highs and lows which thoroughly depleted my energy. During this time I learned a lot about endurance, pushing through hard times by buckling down and bossing up. These feel more like the lessons tied to the series of eclipses that took place from January 2022 through this past July when the nodes of fate were in Taurus and Scorpio respectively.
An eclipse is synonymous with accelerated growth through sudden change.
Eclipses occur when the Sun and the Moon’s elliptical orbits meet along the same axis, eclipsing one another from our point of view. Where the cosmos collide we find the North and South nodes of fate and destiny. The North node is a conscious tie to the future whereas the South node represents the unconscious ties to the past. The North node expands upon the themes of the sign it is found in whereas the South node aids in releasing behaviors we are outgrowing. The North node is terrain undiscovered and the South node is where we feel comfortable and familiar. Together, they create a binary around karmic lessons imparted to us through eclipse season.
Eclipse energy feels rather unstable as we feel the influence of the past and future conjoining in the present moment. Eclipses act as portals of fated circumstances, aligning us closer to our destiny. These circumstances are often sudden and unexpected and may play out over the course of the next six months.
When the nodes of the Moon ingressed to Aries and Libra in July we found ourselves on the precipice of a hot and heavy Venus Retrograde in Leo. It hasn’t been an easy year for Venus-ruled signs (Libra and Taurus placements) especially if you’re like me, a Libra rising in a Venus-ruled profection year. A lot has been up for review in the Venusian areas of our lives (ie relationships, money, values, and aesthetics) for the last few weeks. I personally found myself challenged in my mission of pouring into all areas of my life equally. It became overwhelming and I had to slow down in order to rebuild my strength. This is where I began to see the overall lessons of the shift of the North node to Aries and the South node to Libra.
The North node in Aries challenges us to remain true to our vision and be brave in our actions.
We are being asked to show up authentically without concerning ourselves with the opinions of others. We’re encouraged to show up in alignment with the brightest and boldest versions of ourselves with open hearts. We must be formidable as we traverse through unexplored territory and view the world with the adventurer’s spirit. There is no telling how far we can go when we truly believe in ourselves. We are being asked to advocate not only for ourselves but the version of you that your inner child believed you’d become. It’s a time to reconnect with the things that make us feel passionate and alive, move our bodies, build strength, and test our own limitations.
The South node in Libra asks us to release people-pleasing tendencies and perfectionism as a form of procrastination.
We are being asked to contend with our own vanity and actions we take for the sake of “keeping appearances”. It isn’t a time to seek external validation but rather to find our own resolve from within. Nothing one-sided can prosper here, we will deeply feel inequality within our relationships and be more driven to demand the respect we deserve. There is a prominent theme of me vs we or ourselves in relation to others that we haven’t been able to ignore since July of this year. We have been asked to work on creating healthy boundaries and expectations of others, as well as standing up for ourselves in the face of unjust behavior.
This transit of the nodes will be ongoing from July 17th 2023 through January 11th 2025. We will experience a series of six eclipses through this transit, five out of six being solar eclipses.
Solar eclipses take place when the Moon swallows the Sun, our emotions dominating our ego. It is advisable to take pause when engaging with sensitive subject matter. Under the cover of the darkest night our shadow selves can take reign, it is not advisable to drink heavily or take in anything that can alter your perspective under eclipse energy. It’s already intense enough all on its own. Solar eclipses tend to bring up unfinished business you have with others, this series especially due to Libra’s rulership over love, romance, partnership, and diplomacy.
The Solar eclipse on October 14th centers around themes of balance within ourselves especially in regards to our relationships and our routines. We’ll clearly see if there is any one area of our lives we are tending to more than the rest. Libra’s ultimate principle of equal give and take will be tested as we are being called to be more assertive and less self-sacrificial.
This Venus-ruled lunation takes place under Venus fallen in Virgo. She is not well-resourced here and less adept at performing her function.
Virgo’s mercurial logic and reasoning is the critical lens that deflates Venus’ desire to indulge in romantic fantasy. During this transit, we are less likely to make decisions based on whims or desires but rather move tactfully and with precision. There is mutual reception here with Mercury transiting Libra, gifting one another alternate perspective. This eclipse asks us to be realistic about our expectations within our relationships as well as cultivate self-love practices that nourish us on every level, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Eclipse energy can be extremely draining, so it's important to make extra time for simple things like eating a home-cooked meal or taking a moment in the morning to stretch. We need extra water, extra rest, and extra patience to put our best foot forward at this time.
We’re being called to show up for ourselves authentically so we can better show up for everyone around us.
We should reflect in this moment how we can better move with universal love in our hearts. We will have to work harder to find appreciation for romantic love with Venus in analytical Virgo but we can easily find fulfillment through all the practical love that exists within our every day. Our friends, our family, and even the people within our communities we engage with on a regular basis. Love exists all around us if you move with an open heart. Under this Libra solar eclipse, I invite you to find awe and admiration for the many ways love exists all around you and create practical steps in your daily routine centered around loving yourself. Perpetuate love out and find love perpetuate it back to you.
