Venus+Mars shift to Aquarius: a time to forge forward

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

In the early hours of March 6th, Venus and Mars covertly moved out of Capricorn and into Aquarius.

Venus, planet of love, pleasure, values, cooperation, giving, and receiving has been walking the celestial path hand-in-hand with Mars, planet of action, aggression, fight, courage, resourcefulness, and competition for the last few weeks.

Venus has had an extended stay in Capricorn, which she has been hanging around in since November 5th. During her retrograde she spent time waiting for Mars to catch up with her, beginning a cosmic game of cat and mouse. This tension building between them boiled over on March 3rd where they formed a conjunction alongside Pluto, planet of death, rebirth transformation, and destruction all in the sign of Capricorn.

During their time spent in earthy Capricorn, Venus and Mars influenced us to evaluate what’s worthy of the expenditure of our time and energy. Capricorn has lofty ambitions but backs them up with hard work, determination, and drive to achieve results. This time was ideal for laying a strong foundation and creating practices rooted in discipline.

Now with Venus and Mars progressing to airy abstract Aquarius, we may find it a bit more challenging to find the follow-through or execution needed to remain committed to our routines. However, in its place, we will find boundless creative potential and an exponential ability to get things accomplished in an entirely original way.

Venus in Aquarius inspires us to seek pleasure in a cerebral way. We are encouraged to explore all that is strange and unusual, entertain all that differs from our unique perspective, and appreciate all that encompasses both our individuality and collective humanity. This is an extremely positive transit to tap into a new perspective especially when it comes to opening the heart and mind.

Mars in Aquarius acts in a way that is unconventional and at times can be quite disruptive. Mars in Aquarius inspires innovation and wants to take action that helps raise the collective consciousness. Such an undertaking isn’t something meant for an individual to forego alone. There is a great deal of emphasis at this moment to unite around causes that can propel us forward collectively.

A major lesson around planets in Aquarius is rooted in healthy detachment.

The Water Bearer understands the totality of the earthy experience- the weight of the tangible and physical problems that come with simply being. Aquarius asks us to revolutionize our thoughts by removing ourselves from the equation in coming to the solutions.

This means having the ability to be objective with our own actions as well as the issues that exist outside of us. In order to enact change, it is imperative that we start with recognizing the need for change. This can mean looking at ourselves in a way that is critical, cold, and sterile but that is what these transits ask of us in order to foster growth.

Together these two personal planets immediately blend energies in conjunction the instant they enter Aquarius. With the changing of the guard, this conjunction has a distinctly different feel to it than when they met a few days earlier in Capricorn. This is a new beginning, an opportunity to assess our habits, relationships, and actions under the lens of Aquarius’ revolutionary mind.

We may feel better able to stand up for ourselves, draw a line with what isn’t working for us, and find alternative ways to get our needs met.

There is a deep need to remain authentic to ourselves now and nothing can stand in our way of doing so. Aquarius may be an air sign but it is a FIXED air sign. While there is a need to understand all sides of things, there is an even greater need to remain true to ourselves.

Our minds are powerful when Aquarius is highlighted in the cosmos. This sign is forward-minded and can see clear visions of the future through their ingenuity and intuition. We may find ourselves fighting to make our dreams a reality now more than ever. Especially with support from the Pisces Sun, we can make great progress around manifesting our visions to the physical world.

You may find yourself more drawn to people who stimulate you intellectually or help expand your viewpoint. This is a time for being open-minded, Aquarius inspires us to seek change and experimentation. This energy is focused on forging forward and cares very little for the limitations that stand in the way.

Aquarius energy is quite paradoxical, it embodies both the individual and the group. It is the feeling of being alone in a crowd, finding yourself desiring to be seen yet surrounded by energy that is not attuned to you. It is easy to feel misunderstood if you remain so uncommitted to expressing yourself.

An extreme manifestation of detached energy is avoidant action.

Try your best to avoid any fear of letting out your sadness, rage, and disappointment under this transit. Your feelings are valid and deserve to be heard- albeit if you need time to process prior to communicating that is advisable as Aquarius energy can be quite erratic.

During their stay in Aquarius, Venus and Mars each will square off with Uranus, planet of disruption and change. Our desire for freedom within our relationships is highlighted within our relationships once Venus faces off with Uranus in Taurus on March 19th. This is a positive time to call back in personal power and leave any toxic dynamics behind (especially coming off the Virgo Full Moon on March 18th).

When Mars faces off with Uranus on March 22nd, the energy is slightly more volatile given the involvement of planet of war, action, and aggression. This is a day to be mindful of our rage and watch our words, as they are one of our most powerful weapons. Remain vigilant and take your time to be intentional under this easily agitated energy.

Venus and Mars will also meet with Saturn who has been hanging around in Aquarius since December 17th, 2020. Saturn is the planet of karma, discipline, refinement, restriction, and how we navigate duty and responsibility. Saturn is where we learn the hard lessons or rise to the occasion.

Venus finds herself caught between Mars and Saturn in the worst version of a ménage à trois all throughout March.

Aggressive Mars and Stoic Saturn won’t let Venus easily perform her function. When these three power players meet in the sky it will be a time to double down on commitment or watch it all completely blow apart. We may be looking at our relationships in a highly analytical way but there is an opportunity to repair any cracks in the foundation with our heightened sensitivity.

Venus conjoins Saturn on March 28th exactly.

It is highly possible to experience feelings of inadequacy here. Saturn has a high standard and Venus embodies so much of our interpersonal relationships that we may feel left out in the cold. Maintain the value of your worth and make sure you find it from within. Remember, no one can make you feel small if you don’t let them.

If you can stand to remain firm in your belief and maintain personal power, you stand to reap rewards. It may be difficult to lean into vulnerability at this time but it’s exactly what is required of you in order to overcome this transit.

Mars conjoins Saturn shortly after on April 5th.

There may be literal physical blocks around plans you’ve made this day. This also can manifest as mental blocks around any action you wanted to take. Saturn doesn’t make things easy for us. This involvement of this planet often asks us to work twice as hard in order to get where we want to go. If you are willing to push yourself you can make great strides under this energy, but only if you are putting in the work.

Resilience is rewarded where we find Saturn and under Saturn-ruled Aquarius, we will find ourselves in circumstances where the only way to navigate through is with flexibility. Finding a new or better way is the name of the game now with Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Saturn all in future-minded Aquarius.

This influence will carry themes of innovation, independence, and intellect-vs-emotions all throughout the remainder of Pisces season.

While the watery Pisces Sun reminds us that our feelings can inspire the shaping of our ideal world, Aquarius’s influence in the cosmos is here to reign back the fantasy and tap into the logistical side of exactly how we can make that happen. Take advantage of the objectivity planets in Aquarius offer us and get ready to soar to new heights with your newfound perspective.
